Spot The Fallacies!

You know how sometimes people try to persuade you by using misleading or incorrect reasoning? That's what we call fallacies. By mastering Fallacy Quiz you might get better at spotting them.

Everyone likes this game so you must too, right?

Being more adept at identifying deceptive arguments helps you recognize when someone is trying to manipulate you. This skill is key to prevent yourself from being misled or swayed in everyday situations!

How High Will You Score?

In the game, you'll be presented with various statements and asked to determine if they are valid or invalid. In harder levels, you will need to identify the specific fallacy that is being employed. The faster and more accurately you identify each fallacy, the higher your score!

Sharpen Your Critical Thinking Skills!

As your skills improve, so too will your ability to discern between logical and illogical arguments in real-life situations! You also have access to an in-game glossary of close to fifty fallacies. Be better equipped to avoid being manipulated by flawed reasoning. Put on your thinking cap, and get ready to challenge your mind in Fallacy Quiz!

This is such a neat game! Definitely makes you think and I find the addition of the glossary is so unique! My one and only critique would be that the answers aren’t explained if the player chooses incorrectly. Otherwise, I thought the game was great! I played it on my channel if you’re interested in watching! :D Great work!
(+3)

Finally, a game where I can exercise critical thinking in a fun way! It's truly a great addition to my gaming collection... and a fantastic gift for other gamers too. The latest update brings a lot to the table, with beautiful animations for the book!
Dr. Kawashima can go back to the drawing board; this is a great way to train your brain.

(+1)

Loving the book update ! Those page turning animations are so satisfying, you made me read a full book, which I never do lol. Based game.

(1 edit) (+3)

It might sound cheesy, but i found this game enlightening, like, I never had context for many of the dumb way my family argue with me, so this game helped me a lot in understanding why i though they did not make sence
tldr : really cool game that make you understand the real world :D

(+1)(-13)

Will this ever be free?

(+16)(-1)

Depends. Will food and rent ever be free ?

(+3)

No.

(+1)(-5)

Uh the game says its still in dev... strange

(1 edit) (+6)

Hi there! Yes this game is in early access at an early access price. It just got updated, you can check the devlog here

Feel free to share feedback, suggestions or tell if you encounter any issues 😊

(1 edit) (-4)

Why always os only ,what about android users? 💔

(+3)

I'm not sure I understand 😅. The game is in early access for Windows, Linux and Mac. It'll be released here and on steam. A version is planned for Android, no version planned for iOS yet.

(-2)

oh i see. 👍🏻

Thats mac os bro, not ios

(+6)

this is so neat. i've never seen a use of itch.iolike this before

(+1)

Thank you very much :)

(+3)

add razors

(+3)

I saw your update about the book on your tweet, when will this be added to the game? It looks so nice! You could add it now to the beta even if it's not perfect, I want to try it 😊 (sorry for my english I do my best)

(+2)

Okay, I'm going to try to update this week! Stay tuned!

(+4)

I know this is in early access but it's already quite amazing. For a quiz game, seeing handrawn images that kind of match each question is impressive. I almost got a perfect in easy mode but I still have to train for hard mode. I can't wait for the glossary to be added!

(+2)(-13)

This was terrible, if I paid 1 dollar instead of 5 I would have felt like I overpaid

(+1)(-1)

Hey I noticed that the steam page updated the release date from today to Q2 2024? Is there a delay?

(2 edits) (+3)

Hey, sorry for the delay but publishing on Steam turned out to be more complicated than expected. I have to make some changes and go through a review process. This has pushed back the release date on steam. However updates are planned on itch in the meantime, the next update will include the Fallacy Glossary. Thanks for your patience and your interest in the game!

Add the glossary to the game! It looks nice!

(+1)

nice game to move the cursor with :P

(+1)

Ahah Thank you very much, can't wait to share the next updates with you to push that cursor even more ;)

(+2)

can't wait to flip the book !!

(+1)

Hey I think I spotted an error.

One of the questions says something to the effect of (and I'm doing this from memory so I might have got the wording wrong): It hasn't rained for 3 days therefore we should plan a picnic tomorrow.

the game correctly labels this a fallacy, but it labels it as a 'gamblers fallacy' but that would be "it *has* rained 3 days in a row so therefore we should plan a picnic tomorrow. What it should be labeled as is the 'Hot hands fallacy' which is related but is from the assumption that previous success would predict current success (alone without any other information, for example seeing HHH on a coin flip and thinking the forth will be H for sure, or at least more likely) it is also a belief in the law of small numbers.

If the original did say "hasn't then" I hope you add 'Hot Hands' since I feel it slips into our lives a bit more (I have no evidence to back this up, believe if you want)

Also the popup after completing easy mode says "unkocked" instead of "unlocked"

Thank you very much for this feedback, I'll look into it for the next release :)

Hi there! I took your feedback into account, those are indeed two different fallacies, and are now both in the game since the last update. But... I forgot to correct the "unkocked" so it's going to be corrected in the next minor update! Thanks again. :)

(+6)

A game about spotting logical fallacies shouldn't be this fun, you've truly done a wonderful job making this game. That said, I will go to my grave believing that "Eating more fruits and vegetables won't make you immortal" is a valid statement.

(+2)

Thank you so much :). I'm still working on the glossary for the final release ;). About "Eating more fruits and vegetables won't make you immortal" it's valid formally, but it can be an informal fallacy anyway. In the final version I plan to change it to something like "No, I won't eat that. Eating more fruits and vegetables won't make you immortal anyway." to give more context.

(+4)

What I played of this was fun and charming, though sadly it runs somewhat badly on my potato computer. But some of the statements don't have the argument stated, which makes determining which fallacy was used difficult.

Example: for the statement "Well, eating vegetables won't make you immortal," I marked it as valid as I didn't get the implied argument of "So we shouldn't bother eating healthily." I just read it as a true statement.

Since the game presents the statements out of their imagined contexts, I think it's important that the arguments be stated in full rather than relying on the player intuiting unspoken parts of the argument, especially in hard mode.

Thank you.

(+2)

Hi thanks for the feedback! Yes some of the statement will have more context for the release, otherwise they can be misleading. But it's also hard to not give it away too easily ^^. Could you give me your specs? I could try to include some settings to make it run better but uglier.

Oh I'm on a 9-yo laptop is probably why. Specs: Macbook Pro early 2015; 2.7 Ghz Dual-Core Intel i5; 8 GB RAM 1867 MHz DDR3; Intel Iris 6100 1536 MB.

Thank you for your time!

(+4)

If the fallacy fallacy isn't here then this is no true fallacy quiz

(+3)

I forgot about that one, I'm adding it to the final version, thanks 😅.

(+1)

Don't forget to include formal fallacies. Informal fallacies are good to know but formal logic is what gets you places.

(+1)

Yes there are informal and formal fallacies in the game already. I might add more formal fallacies after I add the glossary.

It was added to the list in the 0.2 update! Quiz questions using it are yet to be added in a future update ;)

(+3)

J'ai trouvé ce jeu très ambitieux, original. Je l'ai immédiatement montré à mes enfants pour jouer avec eux. Jeu extrêmement plaisant. Je le recommande.

(+6)(-1)

Lovely looking game. This won't sharpen critical thinking skills whilst the fallacies aren't explained in context. For example, an invalid answer should be presented with an explanation of where the fallacy is because some of these are quite arbitrary.

(1 edit) (+5)

Hi, thanks for your comment, you'll have access to an explanation of the fallacy directly after you answer. The game is still in beta right now. Thanks for your feedback :)

(+7)

This game is so neat. I really can't wait for the finished version, I'd love to read about all the fallacies in the charming game environment you've created.

I assume you'd have done it anyway, but there are a few statements that have typos or dropped/added words in them, so I definitely recommend going over all of them before the official release.

Super awesome game, you've done an incredible job with it. :D

(+2)

Thank you very much for your comment :)

(+5)

Thank you very much for your game. I really appreciate you choosing to make and publish it, with all the efforts and work that go into those things.

(+5)

Such a fun game! I know it's a beta so here's a quick impression:
- The sound levels could be fine tuned a bit more but the menu is really high quality so it doesn't bother the experience
- The length of a game is a bit quick which is nice to chill but sometimes we want to learn more about the reasons why it's valid and why it's not. The glossary you expect to release could become accessible with a hint button when the player fails

Overall it's pretty fun, educational and very engaging with such cool drawings and animations. I'm eager to have more debates now just to encounter one situation from your game xD.

Can't wait for the next versions!

(+6)

This game is awesome!

It's very helpful to overcome my illogical arguments!

So pleasent! Thanks!

(+5)

Thank you for this lovely work :)

(+5)

Awesome game, love the concept. I like the hard mode the best, it really helps me to get good at spotting which specific logical fallacy is being used.

I will probably be gifting a couple copies to people around me, our society seriously needs a reality check when it comes to falling for bad reasoning, this game could actually help people alot.

(+5)

The title screen literally seduced me, due to the artistic quality and the brilliant idea of combining the intelligent theme of fallacious remarks with naive moving drawings and the good old slate of our childhood. The quiz is very well done and teaches a lot. It makes you think and the pleasure of playing it to challenge yourself and your friends is real. Congratulations to the developer for all the little discoveries which allow us to present the scores and push us to do better in the best possible time. I liked the idea of combos which allow you to surpass your own best score. After this game, I feel more equipped to attempt discussions without being manipulated.

(1 edit) (+6)(-1)

Great beta.
The time limit can be stressful though, I think it should be an optional feature.
Alongside having a mode with no time limit, it would be nice to have little info box to explain the meaning of each fallacy during play, I think it would be much more appealing for the players to learn during play and connect the dot themselves rather than looking in a fallacydex.
Also having no time limit would make the game appealing to play with other people or a streaming audience.

(+1)

Yeah, I would like to play it without a timer so I can discuss each scenario with my girlfriend.

(+2)

Yes this mode is confirmed for the final release :) thanks for the feedback it's a great idea

(+2)

Hi! This is now possible since update 0.2, the game now has a custom mode :)

Hello! With update 0.2, the game now has a custom mode where you can select to not have any timer, hope you'll like it :)
